Well, it’s happened. For the first time since I first started this challenge 4 years ago, I didn’t make it to 50k words. I haven’t reached the last hour of November 30th yet, but honestly, the fact that I haven’t contributed 1 word to my story in the past ten days says it all.

I thought I’d be more cut up about this considering how hard I’ve been on myself about it in the past years. I feel great though. I’ve only written 14k words, but it’s been the most rewarding 14k that I have written in years. I’ve fallen in love with my characters and getting their stories out into the world. Unfortunately, due to being pulled in a lot of different directions this month, I only had so much mental and emotional capacity to dedicate to this project.

That said. December it’s on like Donkey Kong. I have a Japanese test on Sunday (lol, please don’t ask me about this unless I bring it up myself because I oop), and after that, I plan to dedicate myself to my short story again. The nice thing about signing up to write a novel voluntarily is that no one is waiting on you to hand in a manuscript. This means you can just keep writing, even when the deadline has passed.

What does this mean for our blog appointment? Hopefully nothing. I am already getting next week’s post ready and I don’t foresee myself stopping for any significant time after that. Okay, so I’m done confessing my shame. Lemme go claim all the winners’ rewards that come with NaNoWriMo because your girl is a cheap criminal and ain’t ready to pay more for her writing tools.
That said if you are reading this, today is the middle of December. Can you tell that I had good intentions but life got in the way? Anyway. Here you are. Thanks for reading. Next time I’ll be talking about Japanese food. Please come back! To all my South African homies: Happy day of Reconciliation!
It’s amazing that you’re juggling writing while trying to learn a new language. I myself am trying to learn to read Chinese, and it’s tough as heck. Good luck for your exams!

Thanks Stuart. Luckily the test has passed. I agree. It is really challenging. I feel like the second language takes away some of the creative energy needed to write
